General Information…
Our family’s adventure and love for the Paso Fino breed began with a single horse, Allegre Kofresi. His innate ability to gait naturally with a wide range of smooth gait was second to none. Knowing how special his genetics were, we spent many years exhaustively trying to acquire his bloodlines in order to help preserve them. As a result, Allegre Kofresi’s breeder, JoAnn Watson Parkins, lovingly shared Kira de Bucanero (Kofresi’s dam) with our family along with his half sister. At that time, however, Kira was older, so we decided to obtain offspring via AI and embryo transplant. Since Allegre Kofresi’s sire had already passed away, we chose Coral’s Alejandro de Vez for stud service. Coral’s Alejandro de Vez is a beautiful 15 hand, liver chestnut stallion with a tremendous gait and flying largo, and 3/4 brother to Allegre Kofresi’s sire, Allicante. Our dream produced Step-in-Time’s Kofresita and Step-in-Time’s Alejandra, fraternal twins, that we hope will help preserve our absolute favorite bloodlines but also the future of the naturally gaited Paso Fino horse breed.
About Step-in-Time’s Kofresita…
In effort to obtain offspring from Kira de Bucanero, Kofresita was born and raised by a leased recipient mare in Ocala, Florida. However grateful for the opportunity to obtain Kira’s offspring, the experience proved to be challenging at times as the mare was a maiden, sweet Thoroughbred that had ended her carrier as a race horse due to an injury.
About Kofresita‘s Dam…
“Kira de Bucanero” was an amazing pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino mare. Kira’s inherent prepotency for naturally smooth gait and ability to travel flawlessly at any speed was the foundation for our breeding program. Her dam, Tona la Negra, was a full sister to the legendary Alicante, a famous and elegant stallion owned by the late Betty Klein. Kira’s grandsire was none other than the world renowned, Puerto Rican stallion, Kofresi. He was Champion Bella Forma and Grand Champion Paso Fino 1961, National Champion Paso Fino 1973, and his impact on the Paso Fino breed remains extraordinary. Kofresi was heavily line-bred; his grandfather on both sides, and his great grandfather and great-great grandfather are the Puerto Rican phenomenon Dulce Sueno, the most influential of all the stallions of the breed today.
